JOINT CLOSING DAY 2009 – UNIFICATION

September 8th, 2009

CLOSING DAY 26th September 2009

For the first time in the Clubs history this will be a JOINT LADIES and GENTS event.

We hope that this will be well attended and be the beginning of a new era for our club following the lead of the National Bodies, for whom unification is hopefully soon to become a fact.  If we are to remain successful and prosper as a club we need to become inclusive not exclusive, so come on everybody lets pull together and make this work.

BUT!!

Is it a good idea to combine 3 events into one, or next year should we have;
Joint Closing Day with a Social Evening, An evening for the End of Season or Xmas Draw and a Prizegiving Evening?

Agree or Disagree, don’t just moan about it to each other.   If you have an opinion why not speak to Committee members direct or use this BLOG to let your Committee know your feelings.  In closing should make it very clear that;

THESE ARE THE VIEWS OF MIKE ROBINSON AND DO NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENT THE VIEWS OF THE COMMITTEE

When I receive official notification of their views they will be posted here.

Memorial Trophy

May 22nd, 2008

Peters family have kindly donated a Trophy which is called the “Peter Shaw Memorial Trophy”. After discussions with the family a triples event was suggested and will be played on Saturday 23rd August, the exact format is still to be decided.

Peter used to attend lots of invitation games at clubs in the Falkirk area so we will be writing to them soon asking if they would like to send a representative. If you are reading this and would like to attend please contact [email protected]

Peters sister Molly has also donated a beautiful Quaiche which will replace an existing trophy for one of our internal competitions.

Friendly Matches

May 22nd, 2008

Friendly matches, a great day out and to be honest without them our income would nosedive.  So the Members who cross their name off the team sheets without finding a substitute, which is happening quite often this year, will eventually create a situation where we will have to start cancelling these games.

WHY? – because the Match Secretary doesn’t want to spend every Friday night phoning around for replacements.

So Members would you please attempt to get a substitute, do a swap or at least have the decency to phone Jan and inform him if you can’t play so he can enjoy the bunnets!

Burnhead

May 22nd, 2008

Due to lots of pullouts the Match Secretary had a lot of phoning around on Friday night in order to field a team for our annual friendly with Burnhead.  With and one drawn and three losing rinks we lost by 65 shots to 49.

Gents Invitation Triples

May 22nd, 2008

We were disappointed that only 12 Triples contested this event on Sunday May 11th but the weather was good to us and a good days bowling was had by all. The two group winners contested the final in which J Winning, A Stirling and J McAlpine (Allandale) beat J Logan (Clarkson), T Bradbury and S Beck

Gents 2 Bowl Pairs

April 21st, 2008

Sunday 20th April 11am – 32 members turned out to contest the annual 2 Bowl Pairs. 16 pairs were placed into three groups with each pair playing 5 games of 8 ends. The 3 group winners Thomas Baxter & Mike Robinson, Gordon Burness & Pat O’Hara, John Irvine & Sandy Thomson and best runners-up Jack Carson & Willie Turnbull qualified for the semi-finals where Thomas & Mike beat Jack & Willie and Gordon & Pat beat John & Sandy. After a long day the final was played about 7pm and Tom and Mike were the eventual winners and were presented with the Andrew Gardener Trophy by Match Secretary Jan Swierczek.

Polmont and Kilsyth Miners

April 21st, 2008

The new season started well on Thursday 17th April with a 41-29 win over 4 rinks at home to Polmont well done Captain Billy Baxter.
On Saturday 19th the visitors were Kilsyth Miners. After a wee bit of hospitality the match was played in great weather and great spirit. After 10 ends we stopped for a meal and despite plying them with more spirit we eventually lost 3 of the 4 rinks, the final score being us 62 them 70. Unlucky to Captain Mike Robinson who won on his rink thanks to Lead Michael Kennedy Jnr, Skip Jan Swierczek and Willie Hamilton who kept their danger man in the bar most of the game.

PETER SHAW

March 16th, 2008

Sunday 16th March 2008
We are sad to announce that Peter died in hospital this morning after a very sudden illness.
Peter was a very well liked and respected member of the club and he will be sorely missed.
Our hearts go out to his Wife and Family.
Our visitor book on the clubs website has already received  messages from  some fellow bowlers

Bowling in Bonnybridge

February 23rd, 2008

Over 40% of our members are Seniors so our income is reducing each year but the running costs keep going up. We need to attract some younger members to Bowl and encourage the locals as well as our own members to attend our social events. Membership fees will never cover our outgoings so we need to promote events that will bring us more profit from the bar.
We need help or a rich Sponsor. Do you have an opinion, some ideas or an answer?
If you do post them here – I look forward to your comments.

In The Beginning

February 23rd, 2008

I thought I’d try something different this year as it keeps the Grey matter working! I intend to use this blog to record our clubs results and other noteworthy events throughout the year. Maybe some of you will add your comments – but remember keep it clean and I will edit or delete anything inappropriate.
Good Luck to all bowlers at Bonnybridge for the coming Season – Mike
